Painful downhill!

Story:

Me and my friends were jumping off some sand cliffs with our Mtn.Bikes. It was flat on top with a 5 foot vertical and then a steep downhill. I rode and jumped off the top and did a "no hander" trick. Only the front end of the bike dropped down and my feet were stuck in the pedals, and I rolled sideways with my bike all the way down the hill! I banged up my knee pretty hard, couldn't race the rest of the season, but it was all worth it! Got a great picture of the crash too.

Paraglider testing in Mexico
By: Kiwi Rating: 5 out of 10
Extreme Rating: Watermelons Baby January 9, 2007
Blood Loss: Bucket Full Stitches: 3 - 5
Story:

I was living in Valle de Bravo in Mexico and received a new generation competition paraglider that I had been very excited to receive. I flew the glider acouple of times in Venezula during a blown out World Cup and then took it back to Mexico. The first day there I flew it at a site called El Penon where I up shot on a ripper thermal up to cloud base about 5000 ft above launch and flew a triangle of about 60 km or so (3 hours) that was one of the best flights of the season and one of the first times a paraglider had a better day then the hang gliders. The next day I woke stiff from the flight and the celebration but decided to go back to the Penon since I could easily catch a ride with the hangies. It was a rough turbulent day and I was late and not paying attention and to cut a long story short the glide fully collapsed on me and went into a positive spiral towards the trees about a 150 ft below. All the hangies said that they saw it and thought I had corrected it (so did I) but she went again in a huge surge and I could see the trees coming so I didn't even bother reaching for my reserve I just stalled it and rode it in. I broke the top fifteen feet off a pine tree and crashed heavily into the ground. "I'm alive" was the first thing I thought which usually happens in these situations and then my glider brought another tree down on top of me which flattened me to the ground. The mexican drivers and pilots all came running down (I wasn't far off launch) expecting me to be dead but miraculously I was fine even though my brand new glider was now swiss cheese. I thought I was totally unhurt but when one of the drivers noticed blood dripping out of the sleeve of my flight suit I peeled it off and revealed a nasty gash in my upper arm muscle. Luckily Will Gadd and a couple of friends pulled up at this point in a taxi and I wished them Good Flights while commandering their ride back to the local hospital to get stitched up. I still have that glider (after a considerable repair job) and even fly it from time to time!

There goes my knee

Story:

After a vicious nights drinking on a uni ski trip, I headed out skiing the next morning feeling really seedy. After cruising a few runs, I decided to pay a trip to some groomer constructed jumps. Having pulled serious air time on them the day before, I had no idea the groomer had increased the steepness of the jump. I sped down to the jump planning my moves, hit the jump and pulled a massive double daffy. Upon landing, I lost balance, hyperextended my left knee and tore my ACL. Despite my knee being full of blood, I skied back to the lodge balancing on one ski. I had a knee reco 4 weeks ago.

Story:

I was out waterskiing in the middle of July in Wales 98. The weather was ****ing scorching, the sea was quite a crowed place as everyone had come to watch the Powerboat Offshore Racing. My buddy and i were skiing pretty close to the shore so that everyone could see us. We were pulling some rad moves. So rad in fact i went to jump this wave and flew about 15 feet up in the air.I pulled a double twist and grab.I must have travelled about 25 feet.It felt like i was never gone land, but eventualy i did.I landed with a loud thud, i landed on one of the marka bouys for the powerboat race. It knocked me clean out, breaking my collar bone, right arm and my leg.Boy that would have been one Muther ****a of a jump if i had landed it.My mates dived in and dragged me out to safety.I can't wait to try it next year, and yes i am gonna pull the move off.

When I came to, my legs were covered by mosquitos

Blood Loss: Couple of Drops Stitches: None
Story:

In 1986 I took my son's CR 80 out for a quick lap to cool off on a hot day on a woods trail. We had 4" hillclimb extensions on the swingarm so the suspension was real soft, and I went thru a smooth G-out type ditch and hit a buried rock with the right footpeg, broke the kickstart out of the case. My other son found me in bushes about 20 minutes later 30 feet from the bike, I was wearing only shorts and a t-shirt and was laying in moist woods grass on a hot day. My legs were covered with mosquitos with huge red butts. I could not slap them, I had two crushed vertabre, a broken hand, wrist, shortened finger, several broken ribs, and a concusion. In my mindless state, I had him help me on his ATC 70 and rode it slowly back to the house. Then I got in a hot tub. My back hurt bad, but there was no bruising, so I thought it was ok. The bath did not help, the next day I went to the hospital. I am still kind of sore, now since casing a triple on a mx bike in 97 and messing it up again. 27 broken bones so far.

Ski Race gone wrong
By: Big Dave the Legend Rating: 4 out of 10

Blood Loss: Glass Full Stitches: More than 10
Story:

I was down the snow with some mates. We decided to have a race from the top of Perisher Mountain (in Australia) down to the bottom of the quad chair. There was four of us and I was coming third after about a minute, so I decided to take a short cut. I headed into a small gathering of trees. After weaving through those I came to a gap of about 2 metres where the water had dug a trench in the snow. A side wards glance revealed that I was winning the race, so my only option was to try and jump the 2m gap. In the seconds leading up to the jump, I though that I was going to make it, but as my snowboard quickly got wedged into the snow halfway down the gulley my thoughts changed. Going from about 40 km/h to 0 in a second, snapped my left ankle and dislocated my shoulder, not to mention the 7 cm gash on my shin.

I would like to take this moment to thank the Persiher Blue ski patrol. ... by the way I lost the race!

Story:

Once Me and a bunch of my freinds lined up 7 cars side by side and used a dozer to make us some dirt ramps. I jumped on my 500 cr and was getting lined up exited about jumping all of these cars and kicking ass in the process. My cousin counted down from 3 and I was shifting gears my power bands were kicked in and I was flying I hit the ramp and I made it over the first six cars hitting the last cars roof. It sent me into flips it trew me 36 feet into a fence and a pond. It broke both my legs and ankles cracking my skull and gave me total of 80 stiches. I had cuts all over my legs from the fence. It was painfull but fun. My cousin said that it busted my helmet open and he held my head abouve the water to keep me from drowning. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. I am looking forward to trying my jump again real soon.
