Ski Race gone wrong

Story:

I was down the snow with some mates. We decided to have a race from the top of Perisher Mountain (in Australia) down to the bottom of the quad chair. There was four of us and I was coming third after about a minute, so I decided to take a short cut. I headed into a small gathering of trees. After weaving through those I came to a gap of about 2 metres where the water had dug a trench in the snow. A side wards glance revealed that I was winning the race, so my only option was to try and jump the 2m gap. In the seconds leading up to the jump, I though that I was going to make it, but as my snowboard quickly got wedged into the snow halfway down the gulley my thoughts changed. Going from about 40 km/h to 0 in a second, snapped my left ankle and dislocated my shoulder, not to mention the 7 cm gash on my shin.

I would like to take this moment to thank the Persiher Blue ski patrol. ... by the way I lost the race!

The Ultimate High

Story:

Just a few weaks ago on a skydiveing trip I ran into a little problem. After a great jump with a few friends, it was time to deploy my main parachute (3000ft..as I rolled over to see if there was any one above me I noticed a group of other jumpers, (oops they left to early after us).. by this time I was at 2000 feet. so I waived off and deployed. When all of a sudden a spinning ball of crap (my parachute) appeared above me. Survival instincts take over, emergency peocedures.. and quick. So first cutt-away and then go for the reserve. As I cut away I went back into free-fall so I pulled the reserve, during this time I watched the ground rush twords me at over 100mph,, (crack) my reserve opens and not a second to early I was below 1000 feet. Stareing death in the eye.. keep a cool mind and treat your equipment good it will return the favor, Heart rate over 110 a minute that was the ultimate high.. just hope It never happens again.

I recently went snowboarding at Holiday Valley With my friend Dan. We were doing their half pipe without any problems, until I decided to try something new. I decided to go a little bigger then usual. I pulled a 360 toe side stiffie and got about 10 feet out of the pipe. Not realizing how close the ground was, Iended landing on the copping, right on my spine. I ended up spending the rest of my day in the first aid clinic.

Story:

Once Me and a bunch of my freinds lined up 7 cars side by side and used a dozer to make us some dirt ramps. I jumped on my 500 cr and was getting lined up exited about jumping all of these cars and kicking ass in the process. My cousin counted down from 3 and I was shifting gears my power bands were kicked in and I was flying I hit the ramp and I made it over the first six cars hitting the last cars roof. It sent me into flips it trew me 36 feet into a fence and a pond. It broke both my legs and ankles cracking my skull and gave me total of 80 stiches. I had cuts all over my legs from the fence. It was painfull but fun. My cousin said that it busted my helmet open and he held my head abouve the water to keep me from drowning. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. I am looking forward to trying my jump again real soon.

Story:

it was the twelth of april 1998 and for my seventeenth birthday my older brother who is a pro sky-diver, promised me a sky-dive, and has been promising me since i was 12. putting on the jumpsuit and getting crap from all the guys at the airport was exciting and the five minute run through of the jump made me wonder but i got on the very small plane with six other jumpers and two other tandems and seeing how frightened they were i had a twenty minute plane ride to back out anyway, but no having guts i was handling things very well. That was until i watched the other two groups jump out of the plane and thought this is it and right then the most amazing feeling that anyone will ever experience happened to me. next year i will have enough money to do my solo coarse but i do tandem jumps as often as possible.the next thing my brother and i plan to try is either a high cliff jump or sky boarding. i'll write back in with my update

Death Spiral

Blood Loss: Glass Full Stitches: None
Story:

4th of July 1991 Catalina Island. I took off in my new paraglider, soared over the town full of people (10,000+)and didn't have any place to land. So, I flew downwind towards a big concrete pier and while racing downwind, I realized that I had overshot the pier by 100 feet. Damn I thought I could turn it into the wind and land then realized I blew it. So, I hooked a turn and instantly lost control; as the glider spun violently over my head, and I came crashing down on a concrete boat ramp. I landed on my feet for a split second and skidded back first into the concrete curb, where I instantly broke my back at the L-10 vertabrae. I then was catapulted into the ocean where I knew I would drown if I didn't get out. I was life flighted to the hospital and after emergency surgery and 30 days in ICU. I recovered 90 days later and have returned to flying with over 2500 flights accident free and I'm an presently a successfull Paragliding/Kitesurfing instructor in Hawaii. PS Willy's still a Champ....

First ever lead
By: Shane van Dijk Rating: 8 out of 10
Extreme Rating: Dinosaur Balls January 9, 2007
Blood Loss: Glass Full Stitches: None
Story:

This is a story not for he lighted hearted, but more for the birds. I was climbing my first ever lead with a mate of mine up at Morialta, Adelaide. Got five sixths of the way up and decided this was all to easy. I executed a perfect body jam into this narrow chimney (look Kevin. No feet, no hands, no ****en brains) I went to crank out of the crack, slipped on some lichen and done a great impersonation of Superman tyring to fly whilst holding a bucket full of kryptonite.

Pulled most of my pro from the rock on my down into an olive tree 14m below. Made a ****en mess of the tree, and made a worse mess of myself. I turned to look at my mate, and asked if he got it on film (He didn't!) and under his advice turned to look at my side, ( I was still face up stuck in the tree) to find a **** load of blood on my shirt and a branch sticking right through me. I had ****en impailed myself. I Done a John Rambo and pulled the stick out ( it just went through the soft bit of flab on my side) only to find another stick inside of me next to it. I pulled that out. Climbed out of the tree and redone the climb.

I ruined and perfectly good shirt and my mate got plaseterd in blood as he followed my lead cleaning the gear up. Just as a supplement, I cratered again 12 months later , ended up in hospital, and again 3 months after that and eneded up inemergency again. Not bad hey!!!! Loves yous all, Shane

Go-Karts on Steroids
By: Don Rating: 4 out of 10
Extreme Rating: Normal Sized Balls January 9, 2007
Blood Loss: Glass Full Stitches: None
Story:

I have been an avid road racer for several years. I began racing 125cc ShifterKarts in 1997. These Go-Karts on steroids can go 130mph with 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Last july I attended a race at Putnam Park,In. this 2 mile road course is very fast and tricky. I started the race in 20th position, had moved up to 5th when The **** hit the fan. Going into a tight right hander, about 60mph the 3rd and 4th place guys got into each other and came across the track in front of me. I had no where to go, and blasted the guy in the rear. I remember the tail of my Kart coming off the ground, as it slamed me on to the asphalt track. I came out of the Kart, at that point and was ran into by another racer. That impact shattered my helmet as well as my left collar bone, and right wrist.I tumbled several times before coming to a stop in the grass.I lost track of time. It seemed as if the ambulance was there waiting for me.When I stood up I realalized I could not walk. My right ankle was also broken. I crawled past my trashed Kart and made it to the ambulance. They took me to a local hospital. I might as well been taken to witch doctors!. These people failed to notice my severly broken ankle, or that I had a serious concusion. They offed me pain pills wich I refused. You see, I was not the only one In my Group. My 16 year old son and a friend was also with me. My son Had witnesed the whole thing and was very concerned. Some competitors at the track helped my son get my equipment packed up , and brought my him to the hospital. He was glad to see me in one peice(sort of). I then was faced six hour drive ahead of me.I had to stop 3 times on the way home because of the pain.I knew I had to get those kids home,so I just kept going!.Well, in hind site , I would do it all over again!. My first race back was in January at Daytona International Speedway. I started 35th of 40 , and went to 3rd on the first lap. I ran as high as 2nd till I made a mistake wich left me in 5th spot.My son was there with me and we were fairly happy with the results( We should have had a top 3) A fried of mine told me " you never know how fast your going , till you fall off!" I say " **** happens!" lets go racing!!!
